If your i Phone requires a tethered boot this means that the device requires a software jumpstart (everytime it is booted) to operate after being jailbroken, there are a few apps that can do this but redsn0w also has the function built in.This past weekend, I tried to upgrade my old i Phone 3GS to the latest version of i OS (version 4.3).Check @Pangu Team, @taig_jailbreak, @saurik, and /r/jailbreak for news and updates. I updated my jailbroken iphone 3gs from 5.0.1 to 6.1.6. You can use Cydia Impactor if you need to un-jailbreak an 8.1-8.4 device without restoring. The update failed and now I'm stuck in a boot loop. Also, I tried fixing it using redsnow but I got 60000 ms error. )- this post will be updated when the next version of redsn0w is released to jailbreak i OS 6.1.2 The process of getting this job done requires a number of steps (but are easily done), which are downloading the official i OS 6 firmware from Apple, upgrading i Tunes to the latest version, getting the latest redsn0w software from the dev team.
I documented the issue and all of the actions that I attempted to do to correct the issue in this blog post: “WARNING: Do NOT Upgrade Your i Phone 3GS to a Newer i OS if you have Replaced Your Battery! I reached out to the great folks at i Fix It based on the comment that I had encountered in their forums and some other places, and they quickly sent me out a replacement battery for my i Phone 3GS so that I could test out the theory that it was the battery that was causing the update to fail and giving that nasty Error 29.
1) To jailbreak and install Cydia: – launch redsn0w again Then on your i Phone/i Pad you will see a hardrive icon followed by a bunch of scrolling code and then running pineapples – and its all happy days.
4) After rebooting, launch Cydia on the i Phone, the app will ask you what type of user you are – just go with ‘user‘ unless you want more and tap ‘done’.
If an update is available, tapping on Download and Install will finish the process for you with no attachment to a computer and no i Tunes at all. This is by far the easiest way to get the i OS update installed onto a device and requires no computer at all, the whole thing is completed on the i Phone or i Pad.
You can always download i OS IPSW files without i Tunes, and then update the software using i Tunes itself.
